What Causes Acne

By: Gary DeWitt

When trying to find out what causes acne, the honest reality is that no one is really sure. There are some individuals that in no way appear to develop acne. Whereas other individuals seem to break out constantly. You may possibly want to make some life adjustment to help diminish your likelihood of the next breakout. You need to do this since science has determined several of the more likely causes of acne.

Having dirt and oil(secreted by the sebaceous glands in the pores) on your skin is a rather probable cause of acne. The pores become clogged and irritated when you do not cleanse the skin properly. But, overwashing the skin can furthermore cause acne in some people. This makes cleansing the skin a easier said than done plan. Gently cleanse you skin with a mild cleanser and wash well with lukewarm water two times each and every day. Cleansing like this appears to be the best suggestion. This will clean the dirt off of your skin, but not strip too much of the natural oils off of your skin. When the natural oils are removed exceedingly often, or the oils are stripped, the body will compensate by creating even more oil. This extra production of oil can trigger even further skin problems.

Hormones can be an additional cause of acne. After hormone levels change suddenly with adolescence and pregnancy, for example the skin becomes more likely to have acne. The use of anabolic steroids by body builders can also cause increased acne because the anabolic steroids stimulate the sebaceous glands. It is unclear if this is since the oils on the skin are in higher concentration or if the skin itself is more sensitive to dirt. Some individuals with acne will be able to take medicine to regulate the hormone levels and lower the odds of acne.

In serious cases, some patients will want to take antibiotics to control the acne and prevent scarring. This is not indicated in all cases however. Yet, some patients have acne eruptions due to high levels of bacteria in their bodies. This treatment will need to be evaluated and determined by a medical doctor.

There are also many fables surrounding what causes acne. For example, chocolate and fried foods seem to be blamed for a lot of cases of acne, but there is no scientific proof that this is the case. While eating better is always a good decision, it doesn't seem to boost the incidence of acne when you do not.

If you are unable to avoid acne by knowing these probable causes, you now want to know how to get rid of acne and what treatments you can do on your own.
