Outline Leadership - What's Leadership?

By: araikordaina katamdi

This text attempts to outline leadership. Why? Because 'what's leadership?' may be a question I get asked often. When you understand the definition of leadership, you'll perceive why leadership is everything.

In this text, I can define leadership in several ways that and highlight how it plays out in practice. Let's begin with the only definition of leadership.
Therefore, what is leadership?

Leadership is the ability to command acceptance by a cluster of individuals and so, get them to try and do what the leader wants. The person providing this direction and commanding acceptance is termed the leader.

From this definition of leadership, it is obvious that the leader is the person whom others settle for to show them the way.
But, you probably are aware that a leader can be imposed on a group of individuals against their will. As an example, a military coup will bring a pacesetter to power. This leader wasn't voted for or accepted by his people. However he ascended the leadership seat by virtue of military would possibly or military intrigues.
Will this military dictatorship be referred to as a kind of leadership over the individuals?

Of course, yes.

Obviously, this indicates that our definition of leadership on top of isn't all-inclusive. One thing is missing. Thus, let's define leadership again.
What is leadership?

Leadership is the flexibility to produce direction to a group of folks and influence those individuals to follow the direction and act accordingly.
This seems like a better definition. But it still will not take into cognizance the fact that a leader might not necessarily influence his folks within the accepted sense of the word.

The word 'influence' suggests that the leader motivated people to follow his direction. Influence will conjointly be outlined as the flexibility of a personal or group of individuals to get others to adapt to their expectations or requirements. Either manner, it implies willing acceptance to follow the instructions or directions of the leader for whatever reason the people decide to try and do so.

But when the leader has to compel, force, or coerce people to try to to what he says, it's now not influence. Nevertheless, the person who uses coersion, brute force or another unethical suggests that to induce others to try to to as he says is still a leader.
That brings us to the realm of leadership styles.

A pacesetter will be...
A charismatic leader
An autocratic leader
A dictator
... or no matter other leadership style he desires to adopt.

Whatever his approach to leadership, he remains a leader.

Currently that we have a tendency to have established that, let's refine our definition. Let's define leadership again in a very manner that is all-encompassing.
I raise the question again: what is leadership?

Here's the easy answer.

Leadership is the ability to influence other individuals to act in line together with your expectations willingly or otherwise.

Everything or anything the leader will to accomplish the goal of gaining followership merely defines the design of leadership. It will not define the concept of leadership.

Bottom line.

Understand the true which means of leadership. Understand how this affects you. Understand why individuals typically say everything rises and falls on leadership. Then plug yourself in to reap the advantages of effective leadership.

Leadership is about results. It's concerning managing followers in such a means that you simply deliver on set objectives.
Sorry, even that statement is an error.

A frontrunner may not achieve set objectives. A leader may be really disappointing and shalow but is he still the leader?
Well, if he's the man responsible, he is that the leader.

So, there is smart leadership and bad leadership. What determines whether leadership is good or bad depends on the leadership style adopted by the leader and the quality of the results achieved.

Want to be a sensible leader?
Understand leadership and... get results!
